What is the story of Brest Brest Brest? Everything started from a quite informal collaboration. We noticed that we got along really well and that working with others was much more friendly and productive than being alone. So we decided quite naturally to work as a team. The collective was founded in 2009, currently led by three people: Arnaud, a self-taught visual artist and musician, Rémy, graduated from the Fine Arts and also musician, and Loris, graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Acamedie (and also musician but he doesn’t know it yet).

You seem to work mainly on projects dedicated to culture and the arts. How would you describe this work ethic? Could you mention some of your major projects? We are totally into living arts, plastic arts, music and literature. In general, we take as much pleasure to tackle large projects, as confidential ones, always favouring a playful spirit. We like projects that come to us as a matter of course. What we had done for the Triangle of Rennes, for the Festival Musilac or for the Festival Arsène are quite representative of that.

How do you draw your daily inspiration? Rémy is managing a record label, we are developing a small publishing house, we are preparing an exhibition of some of our graphic experiments, we are sorting our waste and are always looking for fresh ideas, from day and night.

Do you think current graphic designers have to look beyond their domain? We think that being aware of what is done in other fields is essential. We observe that graphic design is becoming more and more a cross-cutting area. It is the Golden Age for graphic design! Interview conducted in March 2018 ©ktlg
