What is the story of your studio ? We first met at university at an one week course. After graduation, we worked in a creative space with other freelancers in which we had once the chance to work on a project together. Quickly, it turned out that we had a similar way of thinking. Besides working with a similar design approach, we complete each other. Each one brings a new look to the work of the other. Shortly thereafter, we founded de_form.
Do you have a particular work ethics ? The most important for both of us is to give meaning to all the things we do. Instead of working with empty visual answers we always try to have clear and strong concepts with an emotional twist. This is how we manage to create pure design solutions with an intuitive approach.
What do you consider your best design project and why ? It is hard to highlight one because we like all our projects for different reasons. Generally what we enjoy the most is when we have the chance to work on complex projects. Our latest collaboration with the Hungarian shoe label Tisza was fun because we were responsible for the whole design process, from art direction and webdesign, to designing their lookbook or even the scenography of their new store. We had to create an identity for their new shoe collection, that is quite different from their traditional ones, the challenge was to keep the essence of the brand while innovating.
Do you think there is a lack of a design culture ? We think in our today’s world, Internet and the virtual network fill in a gap that could have been a problem for many of us in the past. For smaller countries that lag behind in many areas, it's easier to get involved and be aware of the design topicality. There are several great projects and organizations that try to stick the design scene together, and it definitely works. Interview conducted in November 2015 ©ktlg
